In this role he helps define Refinitiv’s go-to-market, product and content strategies, including for the flagship World-Check and Enhanced Due Diligence product sets. He is particularly focused on keeping abreast of regulatory, industry and technological developments, to ensure LSEG continues to innovate and develop products that meet client needs.
Mike has expertise in sanctions compliance, anti-bribery & corruption, and anti-money laundering, with detailed knowledge of international conventions and guidance (e.g. FATF, Wolfsberg, UNCAC), extraterritorial legislation (e.g. FCPA, UKBA) as well as regional (EU 4MLD, 5MLD) and local laws in numerous jurisdictions. Steen commenced his career in his native Denmark with integrated shipping firm A.P. Moller - Maersk and remained with the company in management positions for 21 years. The roles took him to locations including Pakistan, South Korea, India, Singapore and Hong Kong.
In 2010 he accepted a position as Executive Vice President and Head of Asia Pacific with Germanischer Lloyd (GL) in Shanghai.
Following the GL merger with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in 2013, Steen returned to Singapore and spent a total of eight years with GL and DNV GL in Asia. He subsequently completed senior management positions with Radio Holland and Executive Ship Management.
Steen is a strong advocate for improved digitisation across the maritime industry. He draws on experiences including his previous position of council member of the Singapore Shipping Association, where he played pivotal roles as Chairman of the Technical Committee and the Digital Transformation Committee. He’s so committed to advancing maritime technology, that his desire to ‘get some skin in the game’ led him to become an angel investor for several technology companies, that he seeks to see succeed.
Steen uses his digital expertise to build on RightShip’s core business propositions, while also executing a strategic roadmap to partner or acquire further digital capabilities into RightShip.
When he’s not steering the future direction of RightShip, Steen enjoys running, golf and cycling.
