Diving into the ‘S’ of ESG related risk
J.P. Morgan’s Environmental & Social Risk Policy and standard outlines the risk governance requirements for the consistent identification, escalation and management of activities that may present an increased environmental & social risk. At the transactional level, this policy and standard assesses a client’s commitment and capacity. The 'social' components of ESG start with a company's value system and principled approach to doing business, including labour practices, human rights records and diversity and inclusion. But the ‘S’ aspect of ESG is the least measured in corporate responsibility as social impact is often hard to define, especially as issues such as human trafficking may be hiding far down the supply chain.
