Financing Asia’s AI Data Boom:
The AI deal-making space has gone bonkers in the first half of this year, with SpaceX valued at $2 trillion, SK Hynix planning a $28 billion fund-raising in New York this Friday and a slew of high-profile Chinese AI IPOs in Hong Kong. Singapore too is part of the boom – early this year KKR made its largest-ever investment in Asia-Pacific infrastructure by acquiring a Singapore data-center company in a $10.9 billion deal that aimed to capitalize on AI-driven demand.
How are The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires covering the AI news? The Wall Street Journal's Asia business and finance editor, Peter Landers, walks through the publication's approach to AI coverage, which includes close scrutiny of the accounting behind AI deals and attention to the political connections between AI entrepreneurs and the Trump administration. Tracy Qu, who leads coverage of China AI and AI IPOs in Hong Kong for Dow Jones Newswires, will then join Peter to discuss the first half's biggest deals and what to watch for in the rest of 2026.
