IFR ESG Roundtable 2026

The 2026 IFR ESG Roundtables will take place at the LSEG Building, London on Tuesday May 12, 2026.

The event is free to attend and will draw on IFR's extensive industry contacts to bring together two 60-minute sessions featuring diverse panels of the most senior market practitioners.

Panel 1: Public-sector green bonds

Uptake of the European Union’s stringent Green Bond Standard has been limited since the regulation went live in December 2024. 18 months on, how are European public-sector borrowers assessing its value against the International Capital Market Association’s more established voluntary Green Bond Principles? And what could alter their stances?

For issuers able to meet its stringent requirements, the GBS provides a gold standard to leverage their efforts to follow the EU’s taxonomy of sustainable activities and satisfy the most demanding dark green investors. However, the GBPs can still make use of partial taxonomy alignment with technical screening and ‘do no significant harm’ criteria, as well as minimum social safeguards.

This session with leading European public-sector credits will explore these and related themes in depth.

Panel 2: Geopolitics reshaping energy transition

Conflict in the Middle East is reshaping the energy transition by accelerating demand for renewable energy for security to reduce fossil fuel imports. What effect is this having on clean energy investment? What regional differences are we seeing in the race for low-carbon energy? Where are we seeing bottlenecks?

Entity-level Transition Finance Guidelines were published in March that assess the credibility of companies’ transition plans and build on project or activity level guidelines from loan and bond market associations late last year. What kind of transition-labelled deals can we expect to see and when? How are banks advising their clients on transition? Will Europe’s SFDR 2.0 regulation boost investor demand?
