IFR Asia's 2026 India Financing Forum will take place at Sofitel Mumbai BKC on the morning of Tuesday October 6, 2026.

The event will be split into two 60-minute panels; one focusing on DCM and the other on Private Credit. Each panel will feature a carefully selected mix of high-calibre leaders to ensure a fully-rounded discussion and valuable, actionable insight.

India continues to be a hotspot for global investors, as the booming economy presents opportunities for financing across the credit spectrum.

Changes to regulations are expected to create opportunities for issuance both onshore and offshore. Easing of restrictions on external commercial borrowings will make it easier for more companies to raise offshore bonds, while a revamp of rules for financing mergers and acquisitions will open the way for domestic banks to provide financing.

The rise of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City has given corporates more options when it comes to raising offshore debt. Following ReNew Power’s debut bond issue through the financial centre, more blue chips are setting up treasury centres there.

India’s mammoth infrastructure investment programme is expected to lead to bond market activity. The National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development is providing partial credit guarantees, as are organisations like GuarantCo, to make infrastructure debt more investable, but market acceptance still has a long way to go.

Some state-owned entities have been able to raise jumbo issues in the onshore bond market, helping states diversify their funding, but municipal bond issuance has yet to hit the heights that many predicted.

The onshore bond market continues to be deep and liquid, with more kinds of corporates able to raise funding effectively, whether it is household names printing public bonds to tap into retail demand or high-yield issuers accessing bond portals.

Additionally, corporates can draw on private credit funds, which see huge opportunities in India’s booming economy and investor-friendly investment regime. Indian private credit transactions continue to break records and attract new investors, helping companies fund business transformations.

Moderated by IFR Asia, the panels will discuss these topics and more.  Sample questions include:

DCM

  • How do onshore and offshore rates impact Indian issuers’ decisions about where to raise funds?
  • What is the impact of the new External Commercial Borrowing rules?
  • How will easing regulations around merger and acquisition financing impact the bond market? Will acquirers still raise M&A rupee bonds or will they switch to loans?
  • What market developments are driving the increase in onshore high-yield issuance?
  • Is bond issuance activity moving to GIFT City?
  • When will muni bonds take off in India?

Private Credit

  • Where are the opportunities for private credit in India? Which industry sectors are most suited for private credit and producing such transactions?
  • What are the differences between India’s private credit market and the rest of the world?
  • What impact will the rules around M&A financing have on private credit providers?
  • Is there too much private credit money chasing the same deals? Are investors accepting weaker structures with less protection to win deals?
  • How can the investment or bankruptcy regime be made more friendly to foreign private credit funds?
