IFR Asia's Asian Private Credit Markets Roundtable will take place on the morning of Thursday November 6, 2025 in Singapore.

Private credit has grown in importance in Asia over recent years, with several asset managers establishing multi-billion-dollar funds targeting the region. Similarly, some banks have also set up private credit desks or launched joint venture funds to capitalise on the opportunity, as well as building up their fund finance businesses.

While the term often brings to mind distressed companies, a large part of the opportunity in Asia is in providing funding to performing middle market companies that are not covered by bulge-bracket banks. Indian companies paying returns in the high teens for bridge funding have caught attention, but direct lending can offer a pick-up to lenders without being too onerous for borrowers. Mid-tier firms in Australia’s real estate sector represents another segment of the market that has benefitted from private credit as the latter pool of lenders is able to provide more flexible terms than banks.

India and Australia have seen most of the action in Asia, but is there an opportunity for wider adoption elsewhere in the region? And as US dollar rates come down, could some private credit activity move to the syndicated loan or offshore bond market?
Private credit looks set to become part of Asian issuers’ funding toolkits, but investing without much historical data and uncertainty around recovery prospects in some jurisdictions could cause some bumps along the way.

IFR Asia's Asian Private Credit Markets Roundtable will bring together a high calibre panel of thought leaders from across the market spectrum to ask what the prospects are for the growth of private credit in the region and how banks and asset managers can play a part.

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • Which countries in Asia present the best opportunities for private credit investors?
  • Why are banks pulling back from lending to some corporates and what opportunities are they creating for private credit?
  • What challenges do private credit investors face when it comes to due diligence in the region? How can they benchmark their performance and assess likely recovery rates?
  • Are private credit providers willing to lend against a wider range of collateral such as intellectual property?
  • How will offshore and onshore rates affect issuers’ appetite for private credit?
  • How can banks gain business from the growth of private credit?
  • Do the huge fund sizes raised by some asset managers create difficulties in deploying them?
  • Should private credit lenders be regulated? Do they pose systemic risks to the banking industry?
