Meet the panel of experts
Bruce is currently director of metals research for LSEG with responsibility for managing research teams for base, iron ore and steel and precious metals across the group’s global locations.  He joined Thomson Reuters in February 2014 as base metals research manager. Prior to this Bruce spent over six years as a sell-side equity analyst at Société General, London and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, South Africa, covering gold, silver and platinum mining stocks. Previous appointments include seven years as an exploration geologist in Africa and over six years as a Metals Analyst for GFMS, a precious metals consultancy. Bruce holds a BSc in Geology and a Masters in Mineral Project Appraisal from Imperial College, Royal School of Mines..

Ian serves as Manager of Metals Products for CME Group. He is responsible for the strategic development, management, and profitability of the company’s metals business in the EMEA region. Ian’s current focus is on cultivating growth in CME’s Industrial metals products. Since joining CME Group in 2015, Ian has covered a wide range of initiatives and areas from corporate finance to technology platforms.

Erik is responsible for generating economic analysis on global financial markets by identifying emerging trends, evaluating economic factors and forecasting their impact on CME Group and the company’s business strategy, and upon those who trade in its various markets. He is also one of CME Group’s spokespeople on global economic, financial and geopolitical conditions.

Prior to joining CME Group, Norland gained more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry working for investment banks and hedge funds both in the United States and in France. He most recently served in sales and research at BEAM Bayesian Efficient Asset Management LLC, and previously as Director of Research at EQA Partners, both global macro hedge funds. He also worked for IXIS Corporate & Investment Bank in Paris (now called Natixis), covering central banks and supranationals for the fixed income sales business, and also worked as a market economist and strategist. He began his career at Bankers Trust, Global Investment Management in New York working with the tactical asset allocation group.

Norland holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an M.A.in statistics from Columbia University. He is also a CFA Charterholder.

He started at Metals Week, progressing to Knight-Ridder Financial and then to Bridge over the course of the 1990s. In 2002 he co-founded Metals Insider, which was acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2008. Since then he has been a regular Reuters columnist, writing across the industrial metals spectrum.

He is the author of “Siberian Dreams”, published in 2007, a book about the Russian mining city of Norilsk. The journey also featured on BBC Radio 4 and was the subject of a lecture at the Royal Geographical Society in London.
